“I am a strong presidential candidate compared to Besigye,” Nandala Mafabi declares intention to run in 2026

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Secretary General Nandala Mafabi has declared his intentions to contest for President of Uganda in 2026.

Nandala Mafabi, who currently represents the Budadiri West Constituency in the 11th Parliament, stated, “I will contest for the Presidency of Uganda in 2026, and this is why Besigye has been employing various tactics to impede my efforts.”

Mafabi alleges that during his bid for Party President against Rtd. Gen. Mugisha Muntu, Besigye failed to provide the support he had promised.

Mafabi said that he believes himself to be a formidable presidential candidate compared to Besigye, who has run for the presidency four times. He said, “I am not like him (Besigye), who lacks support. I have strong support within my constituency, providing me with a solid foundation to launch my campaign.”

He further stated, “Starting from my constituency, I will campaign in the northern, western, and central regions. I am a viable presidential contender.”

These developments come amid internal conflicts brewing within the FDC, mainly centered around allegations of ‘dirt money.’ The discord can be traced back to MP Ibrahim Ssemujju, who raised allegations against both Nandala Mafabi and the party’s president, Patrick Amuriat.
