Police in Greater Masaka have arrested a one Ssenyondo George, a 37-year-old father for hacking his two children, aged 5 and 3, and making an attempt on the life of a third child before trying to end his own life.

According to police reports, on August 2, at around 11 am, Mutebi Akaya, the chairman of LC1 in Lwanume “A” village, Kigasa parish, Kyamulibwa sub-county in Kalungu district, reported a distressing incident. Two lifeless bodies, belonging to a male and female juvenile, were discovered abandoned beneath a mango tree near Lwanume Catholic Church. A third child, a 2-year-old girl dressed in a red-and-white outfit, was found alive and crying in the same vicinity.

Upon receiving this information, the Kyamulibwa police in Kalungu district swiftly acted, tracing the origin of the victims. The prime suspect in this case, the children’s father, was identified as Ssenyondo George, a 37-year-old resident of Church Ward in Lwengo Town Council, Lwengo District.

Allegedly, the suspect had been embroiled in a domestic dispute with his wife, Namirimu Florence from Lwengo. In response, he removed their children from her care and transported them to their grandmother’s home in Kalungu. However, the grandmother declined to take responsibility for the children due to limited means of support and advised her son to take them to their grandfather’s residence.

It was during this process that the suspect is said to have developed a motive to harm his own children and then take his own life.

He hacked his two children to death; Namateregga Tina, aged 3, and Jorum, aged 5. A third child, Nakabingo Fina, aged one and a half years, survived the ordeal. She received medical evaluation, which confirmed her to be out of immediate danger, and was subsequently entrusted to the care of the Home Free NGO at Lukaya for proper support and care.

Following the brutal murders of his two children, the suspect made a suicide attempt. However, he was rushed to St. Joseph’s Kyamulibwa Health Centre IV, where he is currently under guard.

The suspect will face two counts of murder and one of attempted murder.
