First Lady Janet Museveni has advised women to offer peace to their husbands as it’s the best strategy for nurturing successful marriages.

While addressing the gathering at the celebration of her 50 years of marriage with Present Yoweri Museveni, Janet shared insights into the longevity and strength of her marriage.

She said that their successful journey is not solely due to her husband’s perfection but rather rooted in the foundation of providing him with peace, even during moments of disagreement.

In her address, Janet urged fellow women to maintain a balanced perspective, refraining from excessive complaints about minor matters. Quoting the bible, she stressed the importance of resolving conflicts before going to bed, thereby fostering a harmonious atmosphere within the marriage.

“Ladies, give your husbands peace and let them be. Don’t overburden the relationship with minor grievances. Even the Bible teaches us not to go to bed angry. Why go to bed with resentment only to wake up with a headache?” Janet said.

The couple’s matrimonial journey began on August 24, 1973, at Turnham Green Church in England, where they exchanged their vows. To commemorate this milestone, Museveni and Janet renewed their marriage vows at Kyamate Church of Uganda in Ntungamo District. The ceremony was graced by the presence of His Grace, Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda.

During the ceremony, President Museveni expressed his profound appreciation for his wife’s significant contributions to his life.

“Taking this moment to acknowledge Maama Janet, she not only granted me companionship and eradicated my loneliness but also facilitated the growth of our family. As you can see, our family has expanded significantly,” Museveni shared.

Museveni and Janet have four children together; Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Natasha Karugire, Patience Rwabwogo, and Diana Kamuntu. All of them are officially married.
