Ailing Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Muhammad Ssegirinya, has confirmed that his political party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), led by party president Robert Kyagulanyi and Leader of the Opposition, Mathias Mpuuga, has provided assurance that they will cover his medical expenses.
Ssegirinya’s inability to settle his accumulating medical bills had triggered debates, with certain voices accusing both the Parliament and NUP of neglecting one of their own.
Currently receiving medical care at the UMC Hospital in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Ssegirinya’s situation has prompted his family to set a one-week ultimatum for Parliament to allocate Shs80 million to address the mounting financial burden resulting from his medical treatment.
However, the latest turn of events indicates that Ssegirinya’s political party has taken the initiative to address the financial aspect of his medical journey.
This step comes while Parliament awaits clearance from its medical board to proceed with the allocation of funds for Ssegirinya’s medical needs.
In a video shared on his social media platform, Ssegirinya conveyed, “I have held discussions with my President, Robert Kyagulanyi, who assured me that all my medical bills will be settled by the party.”
Ssegirinya’s health challenges encompass a trio of ailments: skin cancer, lung infections, and liver swellings.
