Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sam Omala, has taken on a new role as Deputy CEO of Operations at Arrow Security Systems Limited, a private security company owned by Captain Mike Mukula.

Omala, a battle-hardened officer remembered for quelling opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye’s walk-to-work protests in 2011, was unveiled on Monday.

He is entrusted with leveraging his vast experience to ensure the safety of Ugandans and their property.

The announcement of Omala’s new position has ignited a spectrum of responses. Having retired from the police force in 2020, the former Kampala North Police Operations Commander had been leading a quiet life. However, this fresh endeavour thrusts him back into the spotlight.

Afande AIGP Asan Kasingye, another retired officer, expressed his sentiments, stating, “This is the saddest photo I have seen on the internet. It has nothing to do with the officer being ‘decorated’. I had written a full script for my reasons. I just pressed DELETE.”

Jammie Namulema commented, “When life gives you lemons, you definitely need to get that lemonade. I totally understand what that man is going through.”

Ronnie Smart weighed in with, “I have no problem with any retired person returning to employment. However, seeing a senior officer drop this low is so sad.”

Collins Ayubu shared a moral lesson, remarking, “Prepare for your retirement.”

Aniku Francis brought an African perspective, saying, “Please, it’s our African understanding that we retire to sit. It’s high time we understand that retirement means shifting to do other work, preferably what you love most. In his case, he loves security, and he’s right to get back.”

Aine Peter speculated, “Maybe the pension wasn’t enough, and he still has young families to provide for.”
