One student dead, 117 injured in Manafwa-Mbale Road accident

One student has died and 117 others were injured in an accident at Kufu along the Manafwa-Mbale Road.

The accident that happened at 10pm involved a Tata Lorry with registration number UBJ 994J, owned by Bukusu Corporative Enterprise Ltd.

The Tata Lorry, driven by Godmas Mamai, was reportedly transporting students from Nakhupa Primary School when tragedy struck. Witnesses stated that the vehicle was travelling at a high speed when it lost control at Kufu and overturned.

A 16-year-old student, Naminayi Thomas died on the spot. The 117 injured students were rushed to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for immediate medical attention.

The driver of the Tata Lorry, Godmas Mamai, is on the run according to the police.
