Muhammad Ssegirinya, the Member of Parliament for Kawempe North, has left Uganda for Germany to undergo specialized medical treatment.
Ssegirinya has been battling health issues for the past two weeks, with complications to his internal organs, as reported by sources. He was admitted to Lubaga Hospital.
According to Alex Luswa Luwemba, Ssegirinya’s Personal Assistant, the MP’s health has been deteriorating, leading to difficulties in breathing.
Following his release on bail in February this year by the Masaka High Court, which had previously retained his passport, Ssegirinya received permission to travel abroad for treatment.
On Monday, his family members and friends accompanied him to Entebbe International Airport as he embarked on his journey to Germany.
Notably, Ssegirinya and fellow MP Allan Ssewanyana were arrested in September 2021 on charges of terrorism and murder. After spending two years on remand at Kigo Prison, they were granted bail on February 13, 2023, by Justice Lawrence Tweyanze. Since then, both MPs have faced health challenges, leading to several hospitalizations.
