Former Makindye West MP Hussein Kyanjo is dead

Hussein Kyanjo

The former Member of Parliament for Makindye West in Kampala, Hussein Kyanjo, has passed away. The once vocal and dedicated legislator breathed his last this morning at Kibuli Hospital in Kampala.

Kyanjo’s health challenges first emerged in 2011 during a parliamentary trip to South Africa when he noticed a sudden difficulty in speaking. Concerned, he sought medical attention and was subsequently diagnosed with dystonia, a movement disorder characterized by involuntary and uncontrollable muscle contractions.

This condition led to twisting movements and abnormal postures in the affected body part. Dystonia can manifest in various ways, affecting one muscle, a group of muscles, or the entire body. It may be hereditary or caused by external factors such as physical trauma or poisoning.

According to Kyanjo, he ruled out the possibility of dystonia being hereditary or resulting from an accident, leaving poisoning as the only plausible cause.

The exact details surrounding the poisoning, if that is indeed the cause, have never been disclosed.

The news of Kyanjo’s passing has saddened the nation, as he was known for his passionate advocacy and dedication to serving the people of Makindye West.
