Gunmen in UPDF uniform kill mobile banking agent in Gulu City

Police in Gulu City are actively pursuing a group of armed assailants who shot and killed a mobile banking agent during a raid on the shop where he was operating.

The victim, identified as Kenneth Olobo, was attacked while balancing his books by two armed individuals.

The incident was reported by Ismail Odong, a boda boda rider who witnessed the attack. Odong stated that three unidentified men, two of whom were wearing army uniforms and armed with AK47 rifles, raided a mobile banking/mobile money shop belonging to a person named Ian Opio.

According to ASP David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa River Regional Police Spokesperson, the incident happened at around 9:10pm on July 8, 2023. He said that Kenneth Olobo sustained two gunshot wounds and was promptly rushed to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital for immediate medical attention. However, he succumbed to his injuries on July 9, 2023.

Ongom said that the assailants not only robbed an undisclosed sum of money but also took several mobile phones. The police have launched a thorough investigation into the case, classifying it as a double incident involving aggravated robbery and murder by shooting.

He also revealed that their investigative teams have obtained crucial evidence in connection with the case.
