The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) President, Moses Magogo, has revealed plans to introduce double licensing for players. This move will allow footballers to be registered by two clubs in different leagues, a first-of-its-kind initiative worldwide.

During his weekly show on FUFA FM, Magogo emphasized the importance of players getting ample playing time in order to develop their skills. He stated, “Based on that, we are going to introduce double licensing, where a player can be registered by two clubs in two different leagues.”

Under the current licensing system, players with a FUFA license are only eligible to participate in the FUFA Drum competition alongside their respective clubs.

Magogo explained that this measure is part of FUFA’s comprehensive plan to revitalize football in Uganda and cater to the demands of passionate fans who crave captivating and thrilling matches.

“Our football restructuring plan revolves around three key objectives. Firstly, we aim to professionalize football, ensuring that everyone involved in the sport, including talents, workers, and investors, is duly compensated,” Magogo stated.

“Secondly, we aspire to bring football to every household. Lastly, we are committed to achieving football excellence, which includes winning titles,” he added.

Beyond the double licensing initiative, FUFA has plans to provide additional services to enhance football development. These include talent identification in the diaspora, the establishment of a Career Guidance office, and the cultivation of international relations.
