Motorist who ‘attempted to run over’ traffic officer arrested

The Central Police Station in Kampala has arrested the driver of a motor vehicle with registration number UAZ 515C, following an intentional act of trying to run over a traffic officer on Kampala Road.

A video of the incident, widely circulated on social media, shows the police officer attempting to stop the vehicle. However, instead of complying with the officer’s directives, the driver chose to put the life of the officer at risk. Fortunately, the officer, identified as Katongole Josam, narrowly escaped being hit by the vehicle.

The driver, identified as Mukwaya Isaac, allegedly attempted to deceive the authorities during the interrogation by feigning illness. However, upon medical examination, it was confirmed that he was in normal health and had deliberately inserted the cannula into his hand.

As a result, Mukwaya was arrested and is currently being detained at CPS Kampala. The police have levied three charges against him, including violating traffic lights, reckless driving, and attempted murder.
