Death Threats: “Association of Tired Officers in Uniforms” demand Shs10 Million from MP Joyce Bagala

The Police are currently investigating a case involving alleged death threats made against Joyce Bagala, the Woman Member of Parliament for Mityana District.

The threats are believed to be originating from a group calling themselves the “Association of Tired Officers in Uniforms.”

During a weekly press briefing at the police headquarters in Naguru on Monday, Fred Enanga, the Police spokesperson, disclosed that the association had issued a warning to Bagala, stating that she would be shot four times unless she paid a sum of Shs10 million within three days, starting from Saturday, May 20, 2023.

In an anonymous letter, the group also urged Parliament to address their concerns by improving their working conditions and increasing their wages.

“While we take threats to life seriously as Joint Security Agencies, we are currently unable to confirm or deny the authenticity of these anonymous threats. Our investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the situation,” stated Enanga.

Enanga emphasized that any dissatisfied officers potentially involved in the anonymous threats should be aware that threatening lawmakers is a criminal offense.

“Those who are arrested will be charged with the crime of threatening to kill a lawmaker,” added Enanga.

Attempts to contact Bagala for her comments on the matter were unsuccessful, as our repeated calls to her known telephone numbers went unanswered.
