Nandutu Agnes, the State Minister for Karamoja Affairs and Woman MP for Bududa District, has been sent back to Luzira prison as a decision on her bail application is set for tomorrow (Thursday).

Nandutu has been on remand at Luzira prison since April 19 after she was charged with dealing with suspected property meant for Karamoja people.

She was committed to the Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court and her case file was allocated to Judge Jane Okuo Kajuga.

However, her lawyers are seeking bail on medical grounds.

“She suffers from Severe Venous Insufficiency, a life-threatening disease that can cause sudden blood clot formation,” Nandutu’s lawyers say.

Meanwhile, the prosecution led by David Bisamunyu and Jonathan Muwaganya wants state Minister Agnes Nandutu denied bail because she first went into hiding after learning that the police wanted her.

Justice Jane Okuo Kajuga cites multiple issues raised by both legal teams, requiring more time to make a ruling.

The court will rule on Nandutu’s bail application on Thursday, May 4.
