11 police officers suspended for brutalizing female MP, NUP supporters

11 police officers have been summoned by the Professional Standards Unit (PSU) for allegedly beating and torture of the Woman Member of Parliament for Buvuma District, Susan Nakaziba and some of her supporters.

Susan Nakaziba, who subscribes to the National Unity Platform (NUP) party together with her supporters were involved in running battles with the police last Wednesday at Kyanja village, Bweema sub-county in Buvuma district.

The MP and her supporters are said to have disagreed with the District security committees.

“As a result, the district security team dispersed the unlawful gathering and also arrested four suspects. However, some of the officers aggressively manhandled the protesters,” said Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson.

“During the enforcement of that unlawful assembly, there are disturbing viral images that captured some of our officers using excessive force during the arrest of some of the suspects in Buvuma,” he added.

The summoned officers include; SP Kanyesigye Jamal the D/RPC, SP Bagoole Michael – DPC Buvuma, AIP Odeke Francis, CPL Wamanga David, PC Obalim, PC Turyahebwa Akim, PC Ahamize Brave, PC Olari Albert John, PC Egwel Peter Aggrey, PC Kabaheka Benson, PC Makomeli Emma Kevin.

The officers have also been suspended from their duties.
