UgandaHealthExhibition: Here is what you need to know about the campaign

Following a successful #KampalaPotholeExhibition that concluded with President Yoweri Museveni ordering the Ministry of Finance to immediately release Shs6 billion for the rehabilitation of roads in Kampala, popular cartoonist Jim Spire Ssentongo has started another campaign for change.

The campaign, which kicked off this morning with the hashtag #UgandaHealthExhibition, seeks to draw attention to the problems afflicting the nation’s healthcare system.

The #UgandaHealthExhibition, according to Dr Ssentongo, is intended to provide feedback to state authorities directly and indirectly in charge of matters pertaining to health in the nation.

“You’ve had all the time to work and speak, let’s give you some feedback in the next two weeks. Listen to what we go through and feel. Don’t get angry, get concerned – and get working,” Ssentongo said.

He added, “MEDICAL INTERNS, are you ready to exhibit too? Many of you have been privately reaching out to me to voice your plight. Join us to speak for yourselves as we colour Twitter for the next 2 weeks, starting tomorrow (Monday, April 24th).”

However, he guided, “Fellow exhibitors, as you prepare photos/videos, edit out people’s faces – except if they’re part of the exhibit e.g corruption, mistreatment of patients.”

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Ainebyoona, the Ministry of Health spokesperson, also tweeted on Sunday night, “With my notebook and pen. I am reading, writing and listening carefully. #MoHdelivers.”

By press time, the #UgandaHealthExhibition hashtag had gathered over 16.6k tweets. Ugandans seem willing to share photos, videos and stories about the health sector.
