On Tuesday, members of parliament overwhelmingly voted for the Anti-Homosexuality Bill.

Over 350 MPs supported the bill that bans promoting and abetting homosexuality as well as conspiracy to engage in homosexuality.

Only two MPs, Fox Odoi-Oywelowo, a legislator for West Budama North East constituency and Kisoro Municipality MP Kwizera Paul Bucyana were against the bill saying it is unconstitutional, unnecessary and criminalizes consent.

The passed bill will become law once the President assents to it.

Meanwhile, several clips from the debate are making the rounds on social media. The videos contain hilarious statements made by the MPs while defending the bill.

Below are some of the funniest statements.

“You can’t criminalize an entire media house because of one person promoting homosexuality. If it was like that, we would have closed the whole of NRM following the iron sheets scandal,” said Kira Municipality MP Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda.

“Where somebody has got your child into homosexuality even life imprisonment is not adequate. The amendment I am proposing is that such a person should be castrated madam speaker,” said Tororo Municipality MP Sarah Opendi.

Charles Onen, Gulu East MP said, “Rt. Hon Speaker when I look at you and the honourable ladies in this house, there is no reason for a man to run after a man for sex. There’s nothing so sweet, so good for a man more than a woman.”

“For anybody who can stand here and tell us that it is a human right to destroy people’s anuses, that person is evil, and hell belongs to that person,” said Musa Echweru

Busiro MP Medard Sseggona said, “How sure are we that Hon. Fox Odoi is not a homosexual because Hon Basalirwa has called him a homosexualist? We need evidence.”

Gomba West MP Robina Gureme Rwakoojo, who presented the majority report explained why they put seven years for anyone that attempts to rape.

“If someone holds you in an attempt to rape, and you fight him or her before penetration that is not rape but rather attempted rape. But for someone who ends up “chewing you” then that is rape,” she said.
