Top African firm Bowmans and AF Mpanga terminate partnership

Bowmans, one of Africa’s leading law firms has terminated their partnership with AF Mpanga Advocates. A statement from AF Mpanga confirmed the development, terming it as a “joint decision to move forward as separate firms.”

The development follows a “mutual” review of AF Mpanga’s relationship with the broader Bowmans group over the last few months.

AF Mpanga announced it will now be taking a new “strategic direction” over a decade after starting their relationship with Bowmans.

Mpanga, one of the respected lawyers in the country got a blot on his profile when court ruled he was conflicted and was thrown out of a case he was to represent BoU against tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia in 2017.

The decision came after Sudhir applied to court seeking that lawyers of MMAKS Advocates and David Mpanga of AF Mpanga (Bowmans) plus Sebalu & Lule Advocates be barred from representing BoU and any other institution where Ruparelia Group is involved.

The conflicted lawyers formerly worked for Ruparelia Group and therefore had prejudicial facts to the tycoon and his and Ruparelia Group and were therefore conflicted.
