The Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kanungu had ordered a woman who refused to marry a man who had paid her school fees, to refund Shs9.4 million spent on her.
In 2015, Fortunate Kyarikunda, a teacher who had come to the same school for teaching practice, was introduced to Richard Tumwine, according to court documents. The two eventually fell in love.
The two eventually made a commitment to getting married in 2018, and Tumwine promised to pay for the defendant’s Sh9.4 million-costly studies at the Law Development Center.
Tumwine testified in court that Kyarikunda rejected the proposal after agreeing to set up an introduction ceremony in February 2022 on the grounds that he was too old for her.
The Magistrate Grade One, Asanasio Mukobi, told Kyarikunda to refund the money as well as pay legal costs.
