Boys perform better than girls in SST, Math, and Science as UNEB releases 2022 PLE results

The 2022 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) results have today been released by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) at a function at State House Nakasero.

A total of 832,654 candidates from 14,691 centres (schools) registered for PLE in 2022, compared to 749,761 in 2020. Of this number, 583,768 (70.1%) from 11,306 centres were Universal Primary Education (UPE) beneficiaries, and 248,982 (29.9%) were non-UPE.

“Of the 832,654 who registered, 114,617 (14.1%) passed in the first grade. This is an increase from the 11.1% achieved in 2021. Division 2 has 58.2% of the registered students,” said the Executive Secretary of UNEB, Dan Odongo.

Odongo said that girls have always beaten boys in English but that the latter surface above the former in other subjects.

“This is a trend we have observed over the years,” he said.

Individual pupils will again this year get their results through SMS on their phones. Each sms request via short code 6600, will be Sh500.

Headteachers can, however, only get school copies of the results starting on Monday from UNEB’s offices in Kampala.
