Dr. Samuel Oledo Odongo’s removal as president of the Uganda Medical Association (UMA) has been halted by an injunction issued by the High Court in Kampala.
The Head of the Civil Division of the High Court, Justice Musa Ssekaana, has delivered the ruling.
The injunction, according to Justice Ssekaana, will remain in effect up until the conclusion of Dr. Oledo’s main case, in which he challenges the improper procedures, at which point the secretariat of UMA decided to censure him.
The goal of an interim injunction, according to Justice Sekaana, is to maintain the status quo. Dr. Oledo was still serving as president when this case was filed on December 9, 2022, but UMA members decided to change that on December 16, even after being informed of and served with the court case’s documents.
Justice Ssekaana contends that the court cannot be overrun by these illegalities and mob decisions, hence re-instating Dr. Oledo back in office.
UMA secretariat resolved to censure Dr. Oledo after accusing him of participating in partisan politics.
The secretariat alleges that Dr. Oledo mobilised medical students through their umbrella body ” The Federation of Uganda Medical interns” and promised them refreshments and a photo moment with president Museveni at Kololo Independence grounds.
The group knelt before the president and asked him to contest in the 2026 presidential elections.
