President of the Uganda Medical Association, Dr. Samuel Oledo, has defended his choice to kneel and support President Yoweri Museveni’s bid for reelection in 2026.
During an NRM youth symposium at the Kololo independence grounds, Dr. Oledo organized a group of medical professionals to kneel before President Museveni and implore him to run for office in the general elections of 2026. This caused a stir within the medical community.
Dr. Oledo stated in a press conference that while inquiries into his behavior may continue, he will not apologize.
“If I get another chance, I will kneel before the president to appreciate his efforts towards addressing the concerns of medical doctors.
You can’t force me to resign for appreciating the President. I am NRM,” said Dr. Oledo.
“Last year, I knelt before police officers who arrested us during our demonstration. If can kneel before police officers, then why not the president? I will not entertain anyone disrespecting the fountain of honour,” he added.
Last evening, the Uganda Medical Association General Secretary, Dr. Luswata Herbert, claimed that Dr. Oledo had stepped down to pave the way for investigations into his misconduct.
However, Dr. Oledo has insisted that he will not step down.
“Our internal administration can go on with the investigations, but I will not step down as I am the association president,” he said.
