Police in Kamuli district are investigating an aggravated robbery incident where a cashier at the GM sugar weighbridge was shot and wounded by armed thugs.

Busoga North Region Police spokesperson, ASP Michael Kasadha, says the incident occurred on November 26 at around 11:30 PM at the GM Sugar weigh bridge premises located at Luzinga Central Zone 1, Luzinga Parish, Wankole Subcounty, Kamuli district.

He said that the two unknown armed assailants attacked the premises and took hostage a staff member identified as Moses Kiirya.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that upon limiting the freedom of the Kirya, the assailants coerced him into leading them to the residence of the cashier, which he did,” said Kasadha.

He added, “He said the attackers shot Kobil in the left shoulder while demanding money. They allegedly searched the house, which yielded access to Shs95 million, before they fled the scene.”

The victim was rushed to the Nile International Hospital in Jinja city for treatment.

So far, five people have been arrested to help in the investigation. These include Moses Kiirya, Alex Waibale, Malicana Kiirya, Adam Baliruno, and Painedo Ojole.
