President Museveni has appointed the National Resistance Movement (NRM) lawyer Oscar John Kihika as Court of Appeal judge.
Kihika replaces James Mukasa Ssebugenyi. In the Supreme Court case involving the 2016 general elections, Ssebugenyi led a team of Museveni’s lawyers.
Kihika has been the head of the NRM Legal Directorate.
Meanwhile, in a letter dated October 31, 2022, Museveni also appointed Justice Madrama Christopher Izama, Justice Musota Stephen, and Justice Elizabeth Musoke as Supreme Court judges.
The Speaker of Parliament has been given the names of the appointed judges to review.
In order to help reduce the backlog in the justice system, the President appointed 16 new High Court judges in acting roles in May of this year.
