The Commander in Chief of the armed forces, President Yoweri Museveni has made some changes in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
Among the changes announced on Monday evening, Museveni dropped Lt. Gen. Charles Lutaaya as Commander of the Air Forces and appointed him as the senior presidential advisor on matters of Air Forces.
Gen. Lutaaya has been in the position since January 2017.
He has now been replaced by Maj Gen Charles Okidi, who has also been promoted to Lt Gen.
Gen. Okidi has been the Chief of Staff of the UPDF Air Force since December 2019. Before that, he was the Director of Operations at the UPDF Air Force Headquarters at Entebbe.
In other changes, Lt. Col. Stephen Kiggundu has been promoted to Brig. Gen. and appointed Deputy Command Air Forces.
