Democratic Party (DP) Secretary General Gerald Siranda has said that as DP, they went into the DP-NRM agreement after studying President Yoweri Museveni.
While appearing on the NBS Barometer talk show, Siranda stated that when you are dealing with someone who has been in power, you have to be patient.
“I am glad that we are talking about something many people never want to talk about. The President knows there is a need for dialogue,” said Siranda.
According to Siranda, a peaceful transition takes time, but it can be achieved.
“It might take up to ten years,” he said before adding that, “We can even agree to let Museveni run for another term, but we need to have a structure.”
However, he disclosed that any party (NRM or DP) is free to leave the agreement if the things agreed upon aren’t fulfilled.
His comments come a day after Museveni said that the Memorandum of Understanding that the ruling NRM signed with the DP in July did not include any agreement on a political transition.
Museveni’s comments made the public allege that he had duped Norbert Mao and his party.
