The authorities in Dubai have cancelled National Unity Platform (NUP) President, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine’s charity concert.
“Unfortunately our Charity Concert in Dubai has been cancelled! The venue owner has been instructed to cancel,” said Bobi Wine in a tweet.
He blames the Ugandan government.
“The information available shows Ugandan authorities have been working tooth and nail to ensure it doesn’t happen! The first attempt was to deny me entry, and now this!” he claimed.
On Friday night, Bobi Wine was reportedly detained at the Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates.
“Landed in Dubai at 8:30 pm. It’s now 5 am. I’ve been held and interrogated for 8 hours,” Bobi Wine said in a tweet.
He said that his phone and passport were confiscated on arrival.
However, later on, he was released and allowed to enter into Dubai.
“After 12 hrs,(8:30 pm to 9:30 am) I’ve been finally allowed into Dubai. Hoping that our charity concert, which seemed to be the source of these issues, will be allowed to proceed. We’re only trying to raise awareness and assist the many Ugandan and African Immigrant workers,” he tweeted.
Bobi Wine, together with Nubian Li, were set to hold two concerts in Dubai and Abu Dhabi to raise money for Ugandans stuck in Arab countries.
About 3,000 Ugandans are said to be detained in Al Awir Prison in the United Arab Emirates, with the majority of the detainees being girls and facing charges of illegal stay.
