William Ruto has been sworn in as the fifth president of Kenya together with his Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The colorful ceremony took place at Kasarani stadium in Nairobi, Kenya where thousands of people were in attendance to witness the change of guard from Uhuru Kenyatta to Ruto.
Several leaders from around the world attended Ruto’s inauguration and according to the local media in Kenya, the list had 2,500 dignitaries.
Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto together with the new first family arrived at the venue amidst deafening cheers and scenes of jubilation before proceeding to great all his guests.
Our lens can confirm that all the all East African Community presidents attended the handover ceremony and these include, Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, Tanzania’s Samia Suluhu Hassan, Paul Kagame (Rwanda), Evariste Ndayishimiye (Burundi), Salva Kiir (South Sudan) and Felix Tshisekedi (Democratic Republic of Congo).
Ghanaian President Nana Akuffo Addo, Seychelle’s Wavel Ramkalawan, Azali Assoumani of Comoros, Zimbabwe’s Emmerson Mnangagwa, Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique, South Africa’s Deputy President David Mabuza, Republic of Congo President Denis Sassou Nguesso, and Sudan’s Sovereignty Council Member Ibrahim Jaber were all in attendance.
Other leaders include Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Djibouti leader Ismael Guelleh, Somalia’s Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Intergovernmental Authority on Development (Igad) Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu and African Union Commission chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat.
Also, the richest man in Africa for ten years in a row, Aliko Dangote was present at the event.
