Singer-turned-politician Bobi Wine, real name Robert Kyagulanyi, has announced plans to conduct music concerts to raise money for Ugandans stuck in Arab countries.
Bobi Wine, together with Nubian Li, will hold two concerts in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
“We are announcing concerts aimed at raising funds to assist Ugandans stranded in Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, etc.” As we know, hundreds of Ugandans are stranded in these countries with no help. Many of them want to return home but have no funds to facilitate their travels,” reads Bobi Wine’s post in part.
He adds, “On October 8, 2022, we shall be live in concert at Abu Hail Club Stadium in Dubai, and on October 9, 2022, in Abu Dhabi at Villagio Hotel & Resort. Proceeds will go to assist our sisters and brothers. Let’s turn up in our usual large numbers and make the cause worthwhile. “
Last week, Kyadondo East member of Parliament and the shadow minister of Foreign Affairs, Muwada Nkunyingi, asked the government to find ways of repatriating Ugandans who are in detention in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Muwada said that close to 3,000 Ugandans have been detained in Al Awir Prison in the United Arab Emirates, with the majority of the detainees being girls.
He said that the majority of those in detention are facing charges of illegal stay since they entered the UAE on a visit visa.
