Kiplimo becomes first Ugandan to win Great North Run

Double Commonwealth champion Jacob Kiplimo became the first Ugandan to win the Great North Run’s elite men’s race in London.

The 22-year-old Olympic bronze medalist put in a dominant display, finishing in 59:33 on Sunday.

Ethiopians Selemon Barega and Kenenisa Bekele came second and third respectively.

Kiplimo won double gold at last month’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and is a rising star in long-distance running.
