Kyadondo East member of Parliament and the shadow minister of Foreign Affairs Muwada Nkunyingi has asked the government to find ways of repatriating Ugandans, who are in detention in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

While addressing the media this morning at parliament, Muwada, who returned from the UAE last month, said that close to 3,000 Ugandans have been detained in Al Awir Prison in the United Arab Emirates, with the majority of the detainees being girls.

According to Muwada, the majority of those in detention are facing charges of illegal stay since they entered the UAE on a visit visa.

Muwada further reveals that some other Ugandans in Dubai live in the spaces between the stages of trains after failing to find jobs.

The shadow minister wants the government to enter into bilateral agreements with countries that host many Ugandan job seekers. He also urged the ministry of foreign affairs to negotiate longer-stay visas with other countries.
