President Yoweri Museveni has responded to those insulting deceased bush war veteran Gen Elly Tumwine. Tumwine succumbed to cancer last Thursday at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.
Speaking during the national prayers at Kololo Ceremonial grounds on Monday, Museveni said that the people who are insulting Gen Tumwine are wasting their time because he is someone who has accomplished so much.
“Dying at 68, Gen. Tumwine was still young but had achieved a lot. I am very happy to hear that he died a satisfied man,” said Museveni.
On Sunday, Tumwine’s children led by Cynthia Tumwine asked the public to forgive him in case of any wrongs he did.
Meanwhile, Museveni lauded the patriotism and resilience of Gen. Tumwine who he said did not abandon the NRA struggle despite losing an eye.
Museveni believes that God used Tumwine to kick start the bush war.
“God works in amazing ways. When Gen Elly Tumwine fired the 1st shot, we thought it was a mistake. People were angry at him saying he shouldn’t have been fired. I want you non-believers to know it was God’s plan for Gen Tumwine to fire first (Feb 6, 1981),” he said.
Gen Tumwine will be laid to rest today at his ancestral home at Mukuru village, Rwemikoma Sub County in Kazo District.
