Ugandans on Twitter have reacted after Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, Jessica Alupo, shared a tweet saying that she represented Minister of Education and Sports, First Lady Janet Museveni, at a function.
“Today, I represented Mama Janet Museveni at the launch of the Anti-Corruption campaign for the year 2022/23.” “With various representatives of MDAs, interdenominational religious and political leaders, and the media, we sought and re-committed the fight against corruption to the Lord,” VP Alupo shared on her official Twitter over the weekend.
According to the National Order of Precedence, the President and the Vice President are the two top positions in the executive.
However, VP Alupo’s tweet left a section of Ugandans on Twitter wondering how a junior official can ask a senior official to represent her.
“We need to respect protocol in this country. In what capacity did the VP represent the Hon. Janet K? As a Minister of Education or as First Lady? “The VP is number two in the country and can only represent the president, I think,” said Robert Tumusiime Akiiki.
“Vice President representing a cabinet minister, OMG,” said Joseph Ssewungu.
“How can a minister delegate a vice president to stand for her in a function?,” said Oluku Paul.
“So the position of Maama Janet is bigger than the vice president,” said Geofma87.
“Wow, only in this Republic, where a Vice President represents a Minister of Education. Honestly, my country deserves better,” said Patrick Kasule.
“You cannot proudly hold the title of VP and at the same time represent a mere cabinet minister at a state function. Stop undermining yourself madam,” said Julian.
