Confederation of African Football (CAF) President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, has applauded former Uganda Cranes skipper Denis Onyango for raising Uganda’s flag high.
Dr. Patrice Motsepe jetted into Uganda on Thursday evening ahead of a two-day visit.
While addressing the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) executive committee at FUFA House in Mengo, Motsepe, who is the owner of South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, where Onyango trades his football, urged Uganda to build structures that can see the country produce many more ‘Onyangos’.
“There is a footballer at my club( Mamelodi Sundowns), Onyango. He is a legend. People love him, and he is a good ambassador for Uganda. And I’m sure this country can produce more players like him, “said Motsepe.
He added, “When I meet President Museveni (today), I will talk about the importance of football, sports in general, and how this sector can help transform society.”
The CAF president revealed how they are looking at empowering every Member Association through different aspects such as capacity building and funding.
“CAF is looking at giving every member association at least $1 million (about Shs3.7 billion) to help in developing and promoting the game,” he said.
