Four-time presidential candidate, Dr. Kizza Besigye, has been arraigned before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s court today. He has been charged with incitement to violence.
Besigye was arrested on Tuesday while protesting the high prices of commodities in the country.
While appearing before grade one magistrate Sienna Owomugisha, Besigye denied the said offence.
His lawyers, led by Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, applied for bail, which the court granted.
Court ordered Besigye to pay 30 million cash and his sureties bonded at Shs70 million.
The opposition strongman rejected a Shs30 million shillings cash bail.
“I consider this an extension of the injustices I’ve faced for long,” he said.
He has instructed his lawyer to appeal the decision of the grade one Magistrate. He will stay on remand until June 16 awaiting his appeal to be heard.
