The father of fallen speaker Jacob Oulanyah, Nathan L’Okori, has insisted that his son did not die of natural causes but rather was poisoned.
Speaking at the son’s burial ceremony at Lalogi, Omoro District, L’Okori said;
“I’m not mourning in vain. I want to say it clearly. Jacob was poisoned. He told me. The poison affected his health so much that by the time he was flown out for treatment, it was too late. He could not recover.”
This is not the first time Oulanyah’s father is saying that his son was poisoned. Hours after his son’s death, L’Okori claimed his son did not die of natural causes.
However, the father didn’t reveal the identity of the person who may have poisoned Oulanyah.
L’Okori further requested the new Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, to take up the responsibilities that her predecessor left behind.
“Madam Speaker you are now occupying Jacob Oulanyah’s chair. Jacob was like a father to us. You now have to take up that position and play the role of the parent to me,” L’Okori said.
He added, “I expected the President to be here in person. Other duties have not allowed him to be here. Tell him that the government of Uganda should finish Oulanyah’s house so that the income from it can be used to take care of his family and the grandchildren he left behind.”
However, earlier this week, Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng opened up about the cancer that Oulanyah has been battling for a number of years.
According to the health minister, Oulanyah developed a relatively big swelling on the neck and he had taken it upon himself to seek further treatment in Germany.
It is further noted that he subsequently visited several other hospitals, and he faced challenges during the lockdown and the elections as he was not able to be in the hospital.
“The immediate cause of death was multiple organ failure- heart, lungs, liver, and kidney. He had multiple infections, which were discovered when he was here and in Seattle. This was a consequence of total suppression of the bone marrow, “she said.
