NRM Member of Parliament for Kasambya County David Kabanda sparked off a controversial Twitter debate as he went back and forth on the brewing tensions between the ruling government, Buganda Kingdom, and the opposition party, the National Unity Platform.
Little did the legislator know that he was setting himself up for a barrage of sophisticated verbal blows from comedian Emeka Collins, who is better known as the Romantic Mukiga.
The comedian left Twitter stunned after he unveiled his lesser-known skills in working the Queen’s dialect when he offloaded his sentiments upon the unsuspecting MP.
In an earlier tweet, Kabanda addressed his friends who were allegedly telling him to separate NUP and Buganda Kingdom. He went forth and accused the Kingdom of being pro-NUP and being anti-NRM.
In response to the legislator, a one Mukiibi asked the legislator to prove his claims since the fallen Speaker, Jacob Oulanyah, had been an advocate for research-based debate.
Kabanda went forth and claimed that the NRM had paid for all its ads on CBS while NUP got theirs aired for free during the most recent presidential elections.
“I can confidently and authoritatively confirm that NRM paid for all its adverts on CBS and BBS, unlike Hon Kyagulanyi, whose campaign adverts were played for free on the same stations,” he tweeted.
Kabanda’s tweet rubbed a couple of tweeps the wrong way including comedian turned radio host, Emeka. In a reply to the MP’s tweet, he pounced upon him and “nyam’d” him in a barrage of bombastic words that ridiculed the MP for being a hypocrite who goes quiet when actual issues pressing Ugandans come up but only shows presence while taking digs at NUP.
“Kabanda. Stop acting like a Cockalorum. You’ve never come out to talk about important issues disturbing Ugandans, but you are always shouting for NUP. You try acting like a Snollygoster, but in actuality, you’re a Pillock,” he tweeted.
This, besides sending his message home, caused a fuss on the birdy app as thousands of tweeps liked Emeka’s ideology, with hundreds quoting and retweeting the tweet in real-time.
Many tweeps hailed Emeka for his dazzling display of English words, MP Kabanda was left wounded and replied to Emeka’s tweet, calling him an idiot in his one-word response.
