Swangz Avenue has today unveiled a new artist who has been branded Zafaran. In a similar signing event, Zafaran real name Josephine Nakyoonyi is seen with Swangz lawyers at their office in the industrial area, signing her contract.
Details of the contract have not been disclosed, but it’s believed to be a long-term recording contract.
Swangz continues to sign up artists they’ve never heard of before and turn them into megastars. It’s believed that Zafaran has been under training for months, leading to the contract signing, and was seen backing up musicians in the very successful Tusker Malt Conver sessions.
She backed up King Saha and Chameleone recently at the Swangz Avenue produced Conver Sessions.
As much as details about Zafaran are still scanty, one thing fans come watch out for is her bubbly sense of style that she exudes as a backup vocalist on Tusker Malt Conver sessions in which she impresses with color-blocking and a dash of well-tailored suits.
During the reveal video, there’s a teaser of what is believed to be her song playing in the background. No details about music releases have been shared by Swangz Avenue, nor how long it will take before we get a feel of the new artist.
This takes the number of artists directly managed by Swangz to four, and they are all female. Winnie Nwagi last year renewed her contract with the industrial area-based label, Vinka Signed to Sony but managed by Swangz and the hugely successful AZAWI.
In a recent interview, Benon Mugumbya, Director at the label mentioned that Swangz intends to retain all its artists and add several more to the label.
