VP Alupo’s convoy knocks car carrying women rugby team

Vice President Jessica Alupo’s convoy has knocked a car carrying the women Rugby team -Black Pearls as they were on their way to Kampala from Jinja for a game.

The accident occurred this morning in Mabira forest.

“We have mostly minor injuries and a few serious injuries but all the players are alive and have been evacuated to Lugazi Hospital for medical attention,” reads part of the statement on Black Pearls social media page. According to the Black Pearls manager Bashir Bakel, only five girls sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Lugazi Hospital. Three have so far been discharged, while two have been taken for further treatment.

Uganda Rugby Union (URU) also confirmed the news.

“We are saddened to hear that Black Pearls players have been involved in an accident this morning.

The game is postponed to a later date as we continue to pray for their speedy recovery,” URU said in a short statement.

Police officers on Alupo’s lead patrol car have also sustained injuries.
