Standup comedian Don Andre has come out to use his talent to fight mental health. The comedian who also refers to himself as Son of Otim recently gave birth to a comedy concept known as Chalk on Jokes and it will be launching this Sunday at Namugongo Secondary and Vocational.
Chalk on Jokes is a comedy show that will traverser schools across Uganda and Namugongo being the first, it was considered the launch of the program. Chalk on Jokes will feature various Ugandan comedians who will deliver humor but will also focus on discussing issues to do with mental health in schools.
This Sunday, Don Andre will travel together with comedians Ann Kansiime, Optional Allan, Timothy Nyanzi, and Daniel Omara to Namugongo Secondary and Vocational, where they will deliver a few jokes and also talk to the students about mental health issues.
Speaking to Andre, the brains behind Chalk on Jokes, the idea was to use comedy and bring together students from different schools to learn about the dangers of mental health and how someone can overcome mental health. Andre went on to say that mental health is a big problem with school-going children and most of them go through mental breakdowns. He said that when such issues are addressed, there will be a solution.
So far, Don Andre is partnering with Ann Kasnsiime’s Kansiime Foundation and hoping to bring other corporate companies on board.
