Ugandan author Kakwenza Rukirabashaija who was charged with insulting President Yoweri Museveni and his son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba fled the country on Wednesday. He had been allegedly tortured while in custody after he was arrested in December.

The public has been wondering how a man without a passport left the country.

Speaking to NTV in an online interview, Kakwenza said that he left the country using the porous borders and entered Rwanda. It’s from Rwanda that he connected to Malawi and later into another African country that he did not disclose.

“I am in the safe place in Africa and I am currently working on getting an international passport that I will use to go to Europe for specialized treatment,” he said.

The author Kakwenza Rukirabashaija said he will return to the country after receiving medical treatment in Germany or Canada.

“After getting medical treatment that I’m entitled to, I’ll return to Uganda and through Entebbe Airport. Let the senile dictator, his inebriated curmudgeon son, and all the caboodle of their chamchas know!” he said.

Judiciary spokesperson Jameson Karemani said the court will decide the fate of Kakwenza’s sureties when the hearing of the case starts in March.

On January 25, Kakwenza was granted bail on charges of offensive communication by the Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court, and his passport was withheld as one of the conditions to ensure that he doesn’t abscond from the trial by running away.
