On Thursday evening, the Police Flying Squad arrested a youthful man from Ibanda who had stolen Shs317,408,815 million.
According to Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Asan Kasingye, the $90,000 had been stolen from one of the Directors of Movit, a cosmetics company.
In a tweet, Kasingye said that the officers from the flying squad tracked, traced, and nabbed the man from his hideout, in Mbarara hotel.
He added that after the man’s arrest yesterday evening, police recovered a total of $27,700 about Shs97,840,000 and another Shs97,840,000 in cash.
“This evening, a team of Uganda Police Flying Squad arrested a suspect from Ibanda, that stole cash $90,000 from one of the Directors of Movit co. 27,700$ and Shs97,840,000 was recovered from a hotel room he had hired in Mbarara City,” Kasingye tweeted.
The arrest has caused a debate on Twitter with many bashing the thief for not being creative.
“I would be in Kenya right now if I was him or hiding in forests of Congo. Of course I would have left some with my mom to buy me properties,” one tweep said.
“Stupid! He steals all that money and remains in Mbarara? The airport is working, some people need to be aware of that,” Davis Tuka tweeted.
“If you are destined to die poor, no matter how many opportunities you get, you’ll still end up with nothing! How on earth do you steal $90,000 from Mbarara and still sleep in Mbarara?! Only a Musheshe can do that, not a Muganda,” Afunah tweeted.
“Lead them where the money is, they’ll take you to the police station, the money being a lot, they’ll transfer you to a bigger police headquarter, look critically and see how many rooms and police officers report in a day, ask for your 1call and tell me, that’s where we shall bomb,” Maurice tweeted.
“If it was me your such would be a road to nowhere brother,” Fine guy tweeted.
“I steal all that money, I run out of Uganda that same day and fly to Maldives or Chicago,” Lincoln Art tweeted.
Therefore, what would you do if you suddenly ‘possessed’ Shs318m?
