Kisoko High School in Tororo district is operating in crisis mode as over 100 girls line up for a single pit latrine to ease themselves after the only available toilet facility collapsed three years ago.
The girls are now forced to line up for a single pit latrine that was used by the house teacher to answer nature’s call thus affecting teaching and learning.
The school also lacks a latrine for the sickbay section. Sick students are forced to move to the staff quarters to share the facilities with teachers.
According to the report filed by New Vision, the shocking revelation was made by the school’s deputy headteacher, Catherine Amuya, who was briefing district Vice-Chairperson, Rebecca Akuma on the school’s operational status.
Akuma was on a monitoring exercise to ascertain the operational status, challenges faced, and share possible remedies for different schools.
Amuya said since the latrines collapsed in 2019, the school has tried to prioritize the construction of a new latrine through parents’ contributions.
Grace Nsimbi, a teacher also said that the girls’ pit-latrine near the dormitory collapsed in 2019 and another in 2020.
