Prison warder shoots two colleagues dead in Buikwe

Otim Jacob, a warder for the Uganda Prisons Service who works at Bugungu Y.O Prison in the Buikwe district, has reportedly shot and killed two coworkers, according to the service’s spokesperson Frank Baine.

In a statement released this afternoon, Baine stated that Otim killed warder Namanya Edward, 29, and wardress Abwot Eunice, 25.

“The incident occurred at 07:15 hours in the morning of Monday when WDR Otim Jacob signed a gun to go for general duties only to head to the Sentry where WDRSS Abwot Eunice was working and shot her dead, instantly,” Baine said.

“On hearing the sound of the gun, the second Sentry, WDR Namanya Edward came to establish the cause of the shooting, unfortunately, he was too shot dead by Otim,” he added.

According to Baine, Otim attempted to commit suicide after shooting his fellow officers.

“He was then subdued by other staff on duty and detained,” he said.

He further disclosed that the police was called in immediately, and took over the crime scene.

Baine did not reveal the cause of the shooting.

The deceased, Abwoti and Namanya, hail from Laroo sub-county in Gulu district and Rwamacucu sub-county in Rukiga district respectively.
