NBL PLAYOFFS: City Oilers dig deep to see off Nam Blazers as JKL Lady Dolphins edge UCU Lady Canons in Game 1 of the 2022 finals

JKL Lady Dolphins and City Oilers have the advantage from Game 1 of the Tusker Lite National Basketball League (NBL) playoffs played last evening at the MTN Arena, Lugogo.

In the women’s finals, the Lady Dolphins, who are back-to-back champions, beat the UCU Lady Canons 60-50 to win game one of the Tusker Lite sponsored series.

Brenda Ekone stood out for the JKL Lady Dolphins as she posted 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. She was the Tusker Lite player of the game.

Also, veteran player Flavia Oketcho posted 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists.

For the Mukono-based side, Rose Akon was the standout player for the UCU Lady Canons with 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 assists. Shakira Nanvubya posted 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists.

City Oilers, who are chasing their eighth straight title, narrowly edged newcomers the Nam Blazers 53-60 in the men’s game.

Oilers’ Tonny Drileba was one of the standout players, shooting 13 points, getting 10 rebounds, and dishing out 2 assists.

Mer Maker posted 12 points and 8 rebounds. Ben Komakech had 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 6 assists, whilst James Okello managed 9 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Nam Blazers, who beat Oilers in the regular season, seemed determined to do it again in Game One, but they fell short in the last quarter.

Chris Omanye had 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists. Amisi Saidi had 12 points and 7 rebounds.

Game two of the best of seven finals of the Tusker Lite NBL playoffs is scheduled for Friday at Lugogo.
