Six medical workers at Mubende Regional Referral Hospital have tested positive for Ebola. According to reports, three are senior house officers, and the others are, an intern doctor, a medical student, and an anesthesia officer.

All six have been transferred to Fortportal Regional Referral Hospital and will be managed at J Medic Clinic, a research clinic within the hospital.

On September 20, Uganda officially declared an outbreak of the Sudan strain of Ebola virus disease in Mubende District. Although according to the World Health Organization, the Sudan strain historically has lower levels of transmission, infections, and deaths compared to the Zaire strain, the country has cited a number of cases in a short time period.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng confirmed that there are no confirmed cases of Ebola in Kampala. This is after a suspected Ebola patient died in Kasangati.

“The sample tested from the Kasangati patient is NEGATIVE for Ebola. The public should remain calm and vigilant,” she said.
