Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament Francis Zaake has claimed that he never invited Speaker Anita Among to his wedding.

On Friday, Zaake wedded his longtime girlfriend, Bridget Namirembe. But during their reception at Mityana Emirates Hotel, the MP was presented with an envelope containing Shs10 million, allegedly from the Speaker of Parliament.

Zaake threw the money on the floor amidst chants from his guests.

The MP’s reaction caused mixed reactions on social media, with some attacking him for privately inviting the Speaker and then pretending to disown her contribution in public.

Zaake has responded, claiming that he has never reached out to the speaker.

“I did not invite the Speaker of Parliament to my wedding or anywhere for that matter. I did not seek, request for, receive or need any financial contribution from her,” said Zaake in a post on social media.

He added, “I will not bother challenging the author of the false tweet in this screenshot to prove her allegations because one cannot prove what does not exist.”
