Broker remanded over land grabbing, demolition of house

The Chief Magistrates’ Court in Entebbe has charged Kyagaba Charles, an alleged notorious land fraudster, with land grabbing and malicious damage to property in Wakiso District and beyond.

Kyagaba was arrested in a joint operation between the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and the police. He was arraigned before the court on Monday and charged.

Kyagaba and three others, still at large, are reported to have unlawfully destroyed a house belonging to Kyomuhangi Margaret found in Ziru Village, Wakiso district, claiming that she had built it in his (Kyagaba) Kibanja.

According to Kyagaba, he was given the land by Naiyiga Queen Mary for having assisted her to chase away the illegal occupants from her land.

However, Nayiga dismissed Kyagaba’s claims.

Kyagaba and his workers, including Kabuusu Benon, Komachech, and Wasswa, forcefully demolished Kyomuhangi’s house with the view of chasing her away from the Kibanja, saying she had bought it fraudulently from Nayiga—inviting the attention of the Anti Corruption Unit.

It is further alleged that Kyagaba has been involved in many fraudulent land transactions in the areas of Entebbe.

The court remanded Kyagaba till September 19.
