Who is Sipapa? The “untouchable” crime-prone socialite

Self-styled “rich man” Charles Olim, popularly known as Sipapa, is once again in the news for “crime” reasons.

The city socialite was arrested by police last evening over alleged involvement in a robbery in Kampala in which over Shs1.6 billion was stolen.

Sipapa is popular for his luxury lifestyle, where he gives out money for his influence and popularity.

Nonetheless, he has openly revealed that he dropped out of school after finishing his Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).

Sipapa became popular as a city and social media socialite, posting expensive numberless cars, which he was changing monthly.

However, his name has over the years been linked to ‘Lipanda’, which is a notorious city gang whose members are known for burglary, car break-ins, muggings, and pickpocketing, among other crimes.

Incidentally, he is reportedly connected to top security officers, and it’s no surprise that he’s guarded by military police.

He is also a President Museveni and NRM party fanatic, which many think is the reason why he goes untouched every time he commits any mischief.

In 2020, Sipapa, accompanied by military police and his civilian gang, stormed the headquarters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) in Kamwokya and fired bullets and teargas that allegedly left some people with injuries.

A few days after his arrest, he went to the NUP headquarters and caused chaos.

Sipapa has also been accused by his ex-girlfriends, Serena Batta and Brown Sugar, of subjecting them to domestic violence.

Although domestic violence is a crime, Sipapa has never been prosecuted for battering Batta or Brown Sugar, despite the two women having reported cases to the police.

Sipapa remained ‘untouchable’ until last evening when he was arrested. We wait on what the authorities will do to him.
