Army generals mourn Gen Tumwine

Gen (Rtd) Elly Tumwine died this morning at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, where he was admitted about a week ago.

He died at 5:46 am from lung cancer, according to President Museveni. The National Resistance Army (NRA) historical has been away from the public eye ever since he was dropped from Cabinet in June 2021.

A few hours after his passing, colleagues and members of the general public hailed the fallen 68-year-old general.

The army says he will never forget his patriotic contribution to the revolution.

The former army commander, Gen. Katumba Wamala, said

” I have received the sad news of the passing of RO/00023 Gen. Elly Tumwine. I send my sincere condolences to H.E Kaguta Museveni, the family of Gen. Tumwine, the UPDF/NRA fraternity, and all those whose lives he touched. “

Another former army commander, Gen Mugisha Muntu, said, ” To the wife and children of the late Gen Tumwiine and the UPDF fraternity, I express my heartfelt condolences. We transit through life on earth, a full-time job with complexities. Only by God’s grace can we navigate it successfully. “

A former security minister and Bush war veteran described Tumwine as a dedicated soldier.

“Every one of us, especially those who fought alongside him in Luwero, remembers his resolve and deep commitment to the struggle. May his soul rest in peace,” he said.

Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Commander Landforce said

“Rest in Peace General Tumwine. Immortality means ‘He is without a father, without a mother, without a genealogy, he has neither beginning of days nor end of life…he remains a priest forever (Hebrews 7:3)’. May Almighty God receive you into His everlasting arms Afande Tumwine.”

Meanwhile, the army says arrangements are underway to connect with the family so that the deceased receive a decent burial.
