Nawangwe Reappointed as Makerere University Vice Chancellor

Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe has been reappointed as Makerere University Vice-Chancellor.

According to a letter issued by Mr. Yusuf Kiranda, the Makerere University Secretary, the VC will be running his office for more five years.

“We express our deepest gratitude to the Chancellor and the University Council for recognizing Professor Nawangwe’s distinguished service and granting him the opportunity to serve another term as Vice Chancellor of Makerere University with immediate effect,” he noted.

“The University community congratulates Prof Nawangwe on this appointment and guarantees continued collaboration and support as Makerere University enters a new century of service to humanity.” the letter read in part.

This is his second five-year term as the Makerere VC, keeping him at the helm since 2017.

NUP MP arrested for returning Shs40m ‘bribe’

The Inspectorate of Government-IG is holding the Bukoto South Member of Parliament, Twaha Kagabo on bribery allegations.

The legislator was picked up shortly after he tried to return the Shillings 40million he reportedly received from the residence of the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among under unclear circumstances.

He was arrested by the Parliamentary police, which handed him to the Inspectorate of Government.

Prior to his arrest, the Leader of Opposition Mathais Mpuuga advised the MP to take the money where he got it from.

Jailed MPs Ssewanyana and Ssegirinya seek Justice Minister Mao’s intervention

Jailed MPs Allan Ssewanyana and Muhammad Ssegirinya have asked the new minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao to “do something” about their cases.

On Thursday, the two MPs appeared before the International Crimes Division of the High Court at Kololo for the pre-trial hearing of their murder cases.

The two MPs were further remanded to Kigo prison until September 1.

On their way back to the prison bus, there was chaos as the two legislators appealed to Justice Minister Norbert Mao to intervene in their case claiming they are being framed.

Sandra Teta and her children run away from home, flee back to Rwanda

Goodlyfe singer Douglas Mayanja alias Weasel’s baby mama Sandra Teta has traveled back to Kigali, Rwanda together with her children.

Teta’s going back to Rwanda comes following intense speculation about possible domestic abuse against her.

The couple has, however, recently come out and denied being involved in any fight. Teta posted on her Instagram stating that she was not beaten up by Weasel but rather by unknown goons who even robbed her.

CAF launches Africa Super League

Africa’s football governing body, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), on Wednesday launched a new continental tournament, the CAF Super League.

According to CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the competition will involve 24 elite African football clubs from 16 countries. 197 matches will be played between August 23 and May 24.

Participants will be taken from the best-ranked African clubs over the past few years, with groups to be played on a regional basis (North, Central/West, and South/East).

The 24 clubs will be drawn into three groups of eight teams ahead of a knockout starting with the Round of 16.
